There’s no denying that in this day and age most of you will either have a Netflix account of your own, or will be sharing an account with your other half, sibling, friend, work colleague or possibly even some random stranger to save on the subscription fee. Either way, I can’t imagine life without this streaming platform and lucky for me and YOU, there are plenty of wedding films that will keep you entertained until the big day. Here are my top 8:
1. My Best Friend’s Wedding
This 1997 American romantic comedy stars Julia Roberts, Dermot Mulroney, Cameron Diaz and Rupert Everett. Declared a global box office hit it’s regarded as one of the best romantic comedy films of all time.
This film centres around Annie (Kristen Wiig), who is asked to serve as a maid of honour for her best friend after suffering a series of misfortunes. It was both a critical and commercial success and nominated for a Golden Globe amongst other accolades.
3. Bride Wars
This 2009 romantic comedy features Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway in lead roles. After discovering they’re getting married on the same day after a clerical error, what follows is a series of sabotage against each other, which turns these best friends into arch rivals.
4. Wedding Daze
Jason Biggs and Isla Fisher star in this 2006 romantic comedy which has not one, but two proposals at the centre of its plot. Though not a favourite with the critics, the film does provide some easy Saturday night-viewing.
5. Bride & Prejudice
This Bollywood-style adaptation of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice is filmed predominantly in English, with limited Hindi & Punjabi dialogue. The casting of ex-Miss World and Bollywood starlet Aishwarya Rai Bachchan makes this hugely appealing for Indian film fans.
6. What Happens In Vegas
Cameron Diaz and Ashton Kutcher lead in this 2008 comedy about a pair of complete strangers who unexpectedly get married in Vegas and are later forced to co-exist for six months before a divorce can be granted.
7. Hum Aapke Hain Koun…!
A winner of five Filmfare Awards, this 1994 musical romantic-comedy was the highest-grossing Bollwyood films of its time and was seen to be part of a new wave of Indian cinema. Featuring Madhuri Dixit and Salman Khan, it continues to be celebrated as a true classic.
This 2012 romantic comedy features Kirtsten Dunst, Lizzy Caplan and Isla Fisher as three troubled women who reunite for the wedding of a friend (played by Rebel Wilson). Though it had some mixed reviews at the time of its release, it continues to be a popular watch on the streaming channel.
